Adding an Input Definition is the first step in creating your budget or forecast plan. Input Definitions allow you to specify the lines and columns of data which will be contained in your budget or forecast model.

To create a simple Input Definition:
Step 1: Click on the Input Definition bar to open the Input Navigation Pane.
Step 2: Select an Input Definition folder and then click on the New icon. (Conversely, you can select New and then the Input Definition option on the Home Ribbon)
Step 3: In the dialog, enter a name and label for the new Input Definition and click OK to continue. (The name can be up to 24 characters; the label can be up to 80 characters.)
Step 4: Define the input layout:
• In the Input Definition Design tab, click the selector for Lines and select a Line Definition.
• In the Input Definition Design tab, click the selector for Columns and select a Column Definition.
Step 5: Click the Save button to save the new Input Definition. (Any pending changes will be indicated with an asterisk until you save the Input Definition.)
